Today's mystery photo comes from a school somewhere in Orange County, around 1955. About half the children have cameras on their desks, and the second boy from the front is wearing a "Davey Crockett" t-shirt. Clearly, this was not a modern school room, even by mid-'50s standards. Someone suggested it might be Fountain Valley Elementary School, but that was pretty much a wild guess. As always, any help you can offer in identifying this photo would be greatly appreciated.
Those old desks were still being used at Santa Ana High School when I graduated in 1959. The newer wings and buildings were equiped with the newer free standing desks, but we all still had many classes in the old "bun-busters". That picture could be in any school in Orange county.
ReplyDeleteBrings back memories of my time at Villa Park Elementary during the early 60s. But the residence visible through the window rules that out, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI remember those uncomfortable desks. They had inkwells in 'em....
ReplyDeleteThose kids look to be junior high age, and that room looks just like the ones where I went to 7th and 8th at the old, smelly, non-air conditioned Capistrano Union High School, but like CoxPilot says, they all looked like that back in the day, and I don't recognize the view out the window anyway.
The houses across from FV school were set back away from the street.

ReplyDeleteSomeone should post this on facebook. Also, Classmates has started a photo year book program. You could be lucky that route! :)
