A friend of mine found these photos, which someone had appearantly thrown away. These images were captioned, "As I got off work one afternoon, I saw smoke from the D[isneyland] parking lot." The fire took place right on the side of the lot facing Harbor Blvd. Can you identify any of the businesses in the background?
The Saga Inn (featuring the
Lancer's Restaurant) and the
Charter House Hotel can be seen in the photo above. The motel in the background of the photo below seems to have a Middle Eastern motif.

These photos are a cool find. Love finding photos that have been thrown away.
So he paid to drive into the parking lot to take photos? Wow!
The Charter House (I don't remember anyone ever using "hotel" as part of its name) had an olympic-sized pool and sold summer pool memberships to the locals. Their available days/times were far more flexible than those at the Plunge. And, one could swim on hot summer nights as the Disneyland fireworks exploded overhead.
Sorry I took down a couple of the photos in this post. They were fun and interesting, but (in retrospect) it also seemed kind of intrusive to post stuff like that.
The real story here is that a 55 Chevy 2 door burnt up. It was probably sent to the crusher and is now a steel I-beam in a building. Now days it'd be restored since they're worth so much. I do remember those buldings across the street however. Somewhere in one of those hotels along that stretch was The Old Movie Theatre. I used to go watch old Marx Brothers movies there.
The Middle Eastern motif was from the Mecca Motel.
The Charter House Hotel is now the Anaheim Plaza and it still has the Olypmic sized pool. Stayed there (as always) with the family this past Summer.
Thanks Chris
